Creating Calm in 2025 Using the Power of Sound

When a new year begins, it can feel like a chance for growth and rebirth. Whether it’s letting go of bad energy or waving goodbye to a year of positivity, everyone reading this would have started 2025 a little differently for personal reasons. January is a great time for reflection and planning, both in your personal and professional life.

Despite many individuals going back to work earlier on in the month, January is often considered a slower start. People are finding their routine and rhythm after the long Christmas break, and cold(er) weather encourages us to stay inside and not fill our time with too many activities on our days off!

In addition, a lot of us are trying to instil good habits and fulfil our New Year’s resolutions for 2025. It could be living a healthier lifestyle, it could be travelling more and seeing the world, or it could be something as simple as living a slower life. Entering a New Year gives that feeling of a ‘clean slate’.

It’s no secret that modern-day living (or if you want to be blunt, capitalism) has led many of us to have a desire to feel calmer and live a more conscious, mindful lifestyle. When we incepted Innerminx, we knew that there was a gap in the market to propel sound healing into the spotlight, to show people how you can create a calm environment and nervous system purely by using sound! Sound healing has been used for generations, and many ancient cultures believed in the healing power of sound and used it to promote well-being.

Although for some, 2024 was a year filled with positivity and happiness, many individuals in the UK have reported struggling with anxiety and loneliness. The ONS collects data every year on specific markers such as happiness, hope for the future, anxiety, and other related themes. We saw that out of the data pool surveyed, 23.4% rated their anxiety as high when asked from April to June 2024. This shows a long-term negative change, as it was 21.2% from April to June 2019.

We’re going to explain three ways that you can create calm in 2025 using the power of sound.

Start listening to music at 432Hz and take notice of how you feel

Now, it’s important to note that not all music will be available in 432Hz. It’s been proven that listening to music tuned to 432Hz can have several benefits. Improved mental clarity, reduced anxiety, and feeling more relaxed are just some positives of music at 432Hz. Whether you do this before you start your day, or just before you go to bed, try to get into a consistent habit of it and take note of how you feel.

For those who are new to sound healing, it might feel foreign to jump into something like a guided 1:1 sound bath straight away. Instead, look at exploring options on your own first to figure out whether it’s something that could work for you.

  1. Try a free sound bath at home

If you find that you’re getting on well with listening to music at 432Hz, and you’ve noticed a difference, then it’s time to try a free sound bath at home. There are different options that you can try which you can access by searching online. We are in the process of creating a library of free sound baths which we will share here once updated.

Additionally, if the idea of a sound bath ‘isn’t your thing’ - then think about nature’s sounds and how it can positively impact you. Wind in the trees, the sound of the sea, and birdsong. Simply getting outside and listening to nature can be medicine in itself!

2. Be intentional with the music (and media) that you consume

Just like cheese before you go to bed will give you nightmares, consuming negative sounds and media can also have an impact on your well-being. If you’re trying to instil more calm into your life, focus on sounds that bring you joy and things that will get you closer to the feeling of calm that you desire so much. The same goes for the media you consume on a day-to-day basis, and especially before you go to sleep. Switching up your evening routine is a great example of how you can intentionally do this.

We don’t believe in a 12-step routine so you can ‘sleep better’, instead we have two simple steps which could have a significant impact on your evening routine, reducing anxiety and promoting calmness and tranquillity.

Step 1: Embrace silence, or listen to calming music when you want to wind down and go to bed.

We understand that not everybody wants to listen to music (regardless of how calming it may be) before they go to bed. However, this can be a great way to ‘train your brain’ that it’s time to wind down and go to bed. Think of it as the Pavlov method, slowly conditioning yourself to feel calmer based on a repeated behaviour you do every day.

Step 2: Reducing watching intense shows/media

You might think we sound crazy, but is watching another episode of a show with violence and suspense going to put you in a calm state of mind? This doesn’t mean you have to eliminate any kind of media that isn’t ‘calm’, instead, it’s being more mindful of how much you’re consuming. This also goes for TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Overstimulating your brain whilst simultaneously trying to wind down isn’t going to help you achieve a sense of calm, especially before going to sleep. Instead, try reading a book, or if you can’t sit still, some slow movement such as yoga. We recommend desk yoga poses or anything that you can do with ease in the comfort of your own home.

The most important thing when opening up your mind and body to the power of sound is to not expect change overnight and to immediately ‘feel calm’. We store a lot of tension and trauma in our bodies, and it can take time for our physical and mental wellness to be impacted and for us to feel a poignant change. We’ve tried to make these steps (and advice) as simple as possible and easy to implement. Suppose you’re open to creating change to achieve a better sense of calm and inner peace. Focus on small changes like the ones suggested above, and then move on to other methods so you can truly integrate the power of sound into your life.
